What requirements do I have to meet when I want to send mass mailings (newsletters)?

 

Solution

You are allowed to send mass mailings (newsletters) if your recipients have explicitely subscribed to your mailing list. Only in that case mailings are not spam. Sending spam is prohibited. Your web space account will be blocked and cancelled when you send spam. For sending legitimate newsletters you need an activation:

Unfortunately, viruses on customer PCs and malicious scripts in websites frequently and silently send spam. This can lead to high financial damages for you, because you are liable for the harmless use of your web space. Mailing spam can cause host IP addresses to get blacklisted and block hundreds of other customer accounts from sending mails. Finally, it can force these other customers to migrate their accounts to a different IP address – an enormous financial damage that the culprit through whose mail account the spam was sent will be held liable for: you.

To keep viruses and malicious software from attacking your financial budget, the number of mails that can be sent through your SMTP server is limited to 60 per hour. If you send more than 60 mails per hour, the SMTP server blocks further mails.

60 mails per hour are normally sufficient for normal business operations, but insufficient for mass mailings. For your newsletter the limit can be lifted. When you are ready for your mailing, simply tell our support. We will be happy to cancel the limit temporarily. Sending thousands of mails an hour is then possible. The activation can be done quickly.

If you believe that the activation procedure does not fit your needs, you will probably send so many newsletters that you should consider a bigger solution in general. In this case we recommend to outsource the service to an agent like MailChimp or CleverReach.
