Symptom

You want to create a new website or make changes to an existing website. But you do not want anyone to see these changes or the new website before they are completed.

Solution

Simply create a free subdomain to your Bitpalace main domain. A subdomain is a prefix to your main domain, e.g. test.[maindomain].com, trial.[maindomain].com or new-shop.[maindomain].com or another word of your choice.

A subdomain can be set-up so that it behaves exactly like your main domain. It will look the same in your ftp access, e.g.

/httpdocs
/[subdomain1].[maindomain].com
/[subdomain2].[maindomain].com

and is accessible through the web browser, e.g.

http://[subdomain].[maindomain].com

However, you must know the subdomain's address. Hardly anyone will notice accidentally that you have a test domain along with your main domain. This way you can install a new website in the subdomain unnoticed and test the site. Later, once the tests are done, you can copy your files to your main domain.

For content management systems you will not even need an additional database for testing. In most of these systems you can set a prefix to data tables during installation, so that many projects can share the same database.
