Symptom

You want to create a new Wordpress website. But you do not want anyone to see or try the new website before it's really done.

Solution

Although the webspace contains a preview mode, this is not appropriate for Wordpress sites. Wordpress stores its own URL in its database. Every click on a link of the website is preceded by the own URL. When you access a Wordpress website via the Preview mode, you can see at most the first page. All other pages will be routed to the original URL.

To develop and test a Wordpress website, just create a subdomain such as "staging." or "test." and install your Wordpress into this subdomain. If you already have a WordPress website in your domain that was created from the applications archive, you can clone this site directly into a new subdomain using the "clone" button. The clone feature will match any internal URLs that Wordpress has stored to the new domain. This will keep your current main website up and running as you edit changes or new developments in the subdomain.

After completing your new or changed site, again use the "Clone" button in the webspace control panel to clone your Wordpress page to the main domain.
